Blaxel
Perpetual microVM sandboxes for AI agents that drop to standby when idle and resume with memory intact, plus volumes, batch jobs and MCP hosting. A strong design for always-on, mostly-idle agents; watch how the Baseten acquisition shapes the roadmap.
Overview
Blaxel’s sandboxes are built around standby: after a few seconds of inactivity a sandbox snapshots its memory, processes and filesystem, stops consuming compute, and resumes in tens of milliseconds when called again. That makes “one sandbox per user, forever” affordable.
Blaxel also offers batch jobs, MCP server hosting and agent hosting. Baseten announced its acquisition of Blaxel on September 10, 2026; Blaxel says the platform continues to operate.
Notable
- Acquisition by Baseten announced September 10, 2026.
- Raised a $7.3M seed led by First Round Capital (YC X25).
- Native sandbox support in the OpenAI Agents SDK announced April 2026.

Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- You want a persistent sandbox per user without paying for idle compute
- You need very fast resume from standby
- You want Go as well as Python and TypeScript SDKs
Trade-offs
- Recently acquired; long-term roadmap may change
- GPU support not documented
- Not open source
Best for: Always-available agents that sit idle most of the time and need near-instant resume.
